What A Weekend

Wow.

After releasing Modern Linguist on Friday, Chris Coyier gave me a shout out on Digging Into WordPress. I got a ton of traffic from that, and I owe him some thanks. It seems like those who have taken a look at the theme really enjoy it. I had to make a few modifications after my word counts got entered into the NaNoWriMo site, but it’s working. I did find out that their API is a little slower than I had anticipated. Maybe that a future project to donate to the Office of Letters and Light.

I’m well on my way to the 10,000 words I need by the end of the week. Jessica and I attended the Southern Illinois regional kick-off write-in and I was able to get 3700-something words packed in in the first four hours of noveling. Not too shabby. I’m planning to write another couple of thousand tonight and pull ahead of where I need to be.

I am also considering prepping some of my past WordPress templates for mass release. Some of them need rewrites and I’m thinking that might be a good beginning of 2010 project. Releasing one has got me all into it.

In other news, one major project down, one to finish up. Two of my big day job projects are winding down too, which means I can devote attention to a couple of other major ones that have been waiting in the wings.

We’ve got plane tickets booked for Christmas, plans set for Thanksgiving. It just might be a good end to 2009.

On The Way

An official AgapeFest recap is forthcoming.

I’ve just been super super super busy since the weekend. Lots of stuff at work and also outside of work.

Driving to West Virginia tomorrow and then to Virginia on Friday.

Also, I may or may not be teaching the Web Design class next semester!!

Goings-On

I’ve heard a lot of great feedback from people (even if they’re NOT commenting here) on the new design. Yay! I still like it one full day later, so I guess that’s saying something. And my blog hits jumped from 5 the day before I released it to 175 after the announcement. Not too shabby!

So, other things in life. I have decided to apply to The New School for the Spring. They have a MA in Media Studies available for online study; and though I would miss the on-campus aspects of networking and living in New York, I really need to get on with this or we’ll be stuck in Greenville for a long time. Plus, from what I’ve read, many students think the online program is more intensive, because it forces you to interact with the class as opposed to just showing up.

If that works out I would be starting in January. I’m not exactly sure how long the program lasts, but I’m guessing longer than the SU year-long masters. In any case, I’m excited about the possibility.

In other news, we dropped our standard satellite package with DishNetwork and picked up one of their HD-only packages. It’s saving us about $5 a month and we’re only paying for channels we watch (and some friggin’ sweet ones I didn’t know existed – like Palladia… OH MY GOSH. So good.) and they’re better quality. I’m excited to watch LOST tomorrow night in High Definition. There are only two channels we miss that aren’t in HD yet, and those are IFC and BBC America. BBCA was supposed to release in HD last year, but didn’t. So BBCA, get your act together and give me Top Gear in HD, please.

And also exciting is that Jessica has been unpacking our kitchen! She said it was like Christmas morning yesterday and it made her want to write thank-you notes to people all over again. Most of the stuff we have has been packed away since we first moved out of Greenville about 6 months after the wedding. It’s nice to get all of it out and cleaned. We have awesome dishes that I had forgotten about.

So. That’s the wonderful world of me right now. We need a vacation sometime this year since we’re not moving. Anyone have a recommendation? We need not-too-expensive and preferably someplace with history. That or we could save up and go visit Harry in Yeovil, Somerset, UK. That would be fun. But not so “not-too-expensive”. We’ll see.

The Hiatus Ends Now.

This has probably been the longest in a while that I haven’t blogged. At least since we were in Europe and didn’t have ubiquitous wifi anyway.

This’ll be short. We went to WV over the weekend. I caught whatever sickness Jessica had, but with due diligence fought off most of the symptoms with the zinc-y goodness of CVS brand Zicam. Still got some sinus pressure nad congestion, but I was able to come into work today and that is a good thing. I got loads done so far.

Harry made the 8-hour trek with us. I think it may have shocked him a bit. Our “island” is a lot bigger than the UK. An 8-hour drive was pretty much a foreign concept to him. But he survived. And now we’re enjoying the beautiful fall weather in Greenville. Given, I am stuck in my office and he is recouperating at our house.

New MacBook Pros today! I hope they offer a non-glossy screen version.

Ummm that’s all for now.

Success is Mine!

If you are reading this then my domain name has propagated through whatever DNS you are visiting via. Or in layman’s terms: my blog has moved and still works!

For this I am happy. So far I’m already having a better experience with Lunarpages than with godaddy (btw, if you need hosting, use me as a referral for lunarpages!). They’re ftp is still super slow, but over all I’d much rather use cPanel to configure everything than godaddy’s lame ugly ajaxy backend.

Anyway. If you see anything weird, let me know. But everything should be the same (except I’m using a new lifestreaming plugin!)

back in the US(S)A

We are back. Long day of flights. And our poor dog did not have a good time while we were gone. But he’s really happy we’re back.

Tomorrow I’ll give a good update and hopefully get a bunch of photos up on flickr and such. I need sleep!!

still workin on it!

It was a busy day for me today – Slept in, interviewed a potential hiree for my old position, cruised STL for a while. But I am still working on getting the subdomain up. I might be closer. Hopefully. Gotta say though, shared hosting is not as easy as it should be; especially with GoDaddy.

Anyway, I’ll keep you guys posted. Oh, and cool photos will be uploaded tomorrow after I’ve slept and had time to process them.
