What A Weekend

Wow.

After releasing Modern Linguist on Friday, Chris Coyier gave me a shout out on Digging Into WordPress. I got a ton of traffic from that, and I owe him some thanks. It seems like those who have taken a look at the theme really enjoy it. I had to make a few modifications after my word counts got entered into the NaNoWriMo site, but it’s working. I did find out that their API is a little slower than I had anticipated. Maybe that a future project to donate to the Office of Letters and Light.

I’m well on my way to the 10,000 words I need by the end of the week. Jessica and I attended the Southern Illinois regional kick-off write-in and I was able to get 3700-something words packed in in the first four hours of noveling. Not too shabby. I’m planning to write another couple of thousand tonight and pull ahead of where I need to be.

I am also considering prepping some of my past WordPress templates for mass release. Some of them need rewrites and I’m thinking that might be a good beginning of 2010 project. Releasing one has got me all into it.

In other news, one major project down, one to finish up. Two of my big day job projects are winding down too, which means I can devote attention to a couple of other major ones that have been waiting in the wings.

We’ve got plane tickets booked for Christmas, plans set for Thanksgiving. It just might be a good end to 2009.

Strained Foreign Relations?

I saw the BBC report on 5 November about Russia moving missiles to block a missile shield the US has been planning in Poland. Our purpose, as far as we know, is for it to serve as a protective barrier to Russia’s neighboring countries. We don’t want another Georgia issue like we had earlier this year.

But tonight I found the article The Telegraph posted and it adds in some details I didn’t realize. Apparently Russia is not all that happy with our new president-elect.

Read the story. It’s entertaining.

This and That

Geez. Loads of spam comments since that last akismet update. Weird.

So, CNN’s news team is making me sick. They won’t drop this thing about Palin’s daughter. It’s none of their business, it’s just a way of pushing their left-wing agenda against the Republicans right now. It’s dirty politics.

So, my Vaccaro. Still not put back together. Do you know anything about wiring? Take a look at this diagram and let me know. There’s a free black wire that used to be soldered to something, and I’d like to reattach it. I’ll give you a dollar. Or not.

I dove back into WordPress today and learned how to do asides. Which I think are cool. You may see some here on this blog soon. And the AgapeFest.com site is looking better than ever. Cool features coming there.

I’m also working on some projects for my dad. And may be moving hosting soon. Godaddy has been bugging me for a while but my dad is getting hosting for his two sites and I may move ours over there since I am managing the hosting accounts.

It’s Monday. And I wish it were later in the week.

Reblog: Palin is the pick

I’ve posted a few snippets to this blog from my high school history teacher’s posts. He’s a really insightful guy when it comes to politics and the big picture. In the light of CNN and just about every other news agency reaching and digging to find fault in John McCain’s pick for a running mate, it’s nice to read something maybe not less biased, but a bit more rational.

Anyone that has been in my class for long knows that I have been touting Sarah Palin for the VP pick of the GOP for a long time. So today, finally, I am actually excited about this election season. (I am on record as officially “tepid” concerning the campaign of John McCain)

So, why, exactly have I supported Sarah Palin for so long you might ask?

Sarah Palin has the additional upside of having true outsider credentials. No one will be able to claim that she is either a Beltway Insider (both John McCain and Joe Biden face this charge), or a Machine Politician, a charge that Barack Obama faces in David Freddoso’s recent book.

In any case, I definitely recommend reading it. He makes some points you’re not going to read in the newspaper or see on FOX News (like any of you actually watch that channel) or CNN.

The Times: He ventured forth to bring light to the world

I follow popurls on Twitter and a link came up today with the title “Barak Obama – as seen by a European”. So I followed the link. And what I found was a humorous, poignant summary… and yeah, probably satire… of…

Well, you should read it.

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant…

There’s more. And it’s funny… at least I thought so.

This is Dangerous

I realise that since I am not an Obama supporter this is dangerous. More likely, the stories linked below will fall on deaf and fantastically idealistic ears, enraging, or at least generating, a frustrated perception of… me. But in our nearly one-sided political climate in America, I think it’s important to get as many perspectives on our presidential candidates. That said, if you find any interesting links to stories on McCain or Clinton or whoever else, put them in the comments so I can take a gander.

A friend passed along this link from the Asia Times. It’s a really interesting article, if a little bit long, and provides a perspective I had not yet encountered. Take a read if you care to:

Obama’s women reveal his secret

Linked from that piece is one from January, just after Obama won the South Carolina primary, and concerns the US economic crisis. Another interesting read:
