Cool from the LOC

Where can we dock this marine monster when she reaches the port of New York? (LOC), originally uploaded by The Library of Congress.

The Library of Congress has the absolute coolest Flickr photostream. They routinely archive old newspapers and photos. I saw this today and it got the history geek in me excited. It’s the New York Tribune with an article exploring where the city is going to store the Titanic when it docks…

So cool.

I Lost My Beard

Okay, I didn’t really lose it, but I did get rid of it unfortunately.

I participate in this weekly photo assignment with a group of Flickr friends and this week’s topic was “Before and After”. I did a faux-dyptic that ended up being half of my face (with a beard) and the other have sans-beard. I’m sad the beard is gone. And that means I’ve already started on a new one.

One of the participants in the group tried to console me in the comments, explaining my actions away as “performance art”–so I’ll go with that. In any case… we like me better with a beard. I look like a baby without.

Also, I’m excited that the “Press This!” feature is FINALLY working right.

Finished the Upload

I finished with the “goodest” of the AgapeFest photos I took. I’m happy with most of them. I even posted some to JPG Magazine.

In any case, I’m going to look around this hard drive and add a few older ones just to give my photostream some variety.

Oh also, nifty tooltips on this blog now. Thanks to Nice Tooltips (German). They slowed the load down too much. I quit them.

Pro.

I signed up for a Flickr Pro account today. I realized I only had 58mb of upload space left this month… so I upgraded. I’m planning on taking tons of photos and for $25 it’s a good deal.

My new lenses got here yesterday and I got to play with them last night a bit. I’m pretty impressed. The quality Tamron put into the lenses if great. They feel nice. Not like the Nikon battery grip I bought that feels really cheap.

The hyacinths have been blooming on the side of our house; I didn’t even know we had hyacinths on our property. But they’re beautiful. We’ve also got daffodils from the next door neighbors (I’m pretty sure that’s the case) and day lilies on the other side of the house. It’s great to have stuff blooming! Of course, it is supposed to snow tomorrow. Stupid Illinois weather.

My flickr stream can be seen and accessed via the picturegrid in the sidebar.
