Yeah! Great point. I said almost that exact thing to Jessica as we walked out. D didn't make amends for his behaviour in the previous story (ignoring Harry), not like in the book anyway. It was definitely pupil/teacher as you say.

Joel, I'm so thrilled that there are others who agree that this movie was a little bit the worst thing i've seen in the theaters in severel years... for all the points that have been raised. Your opinions on the Dumbledore/Harry relationship in the movie? I felt like it was undermined to a pupil/teacher interaction of the lowest quality, when McGonegal told Harry D cared about him, I was left wondering how the heck an audience could infer that. This book was for me the one where D and H grew much closer, the basic premise which drives Harry throughout DH. Complete trash. special effects were pretty slick though,.

Oh, I enjoyed quite a bit of it too. Just thought it failed as a movie. There were certainly parts I really liked and a lot of really cool visuals. But the pacing was SO slooooooow.

And your points about what you wish they had focused on more is exactly what I'm talking about. They didn't get the themes right in the film and instead opted to just make stuff look cool. And that especially disappointed me since they decided to delay the release!

It wasn't that I didn't like the film, I was just more disappointed by this one than any of the others.

I read somewhere that the final battle was taken out because of how it would be similar to the final battle at Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows. Makes sense, and you don't actually get to see much of the fighting in the book anyways. But they probably could have at least kept the fighting but instead of showing it all, made it more like it was happening all around Harry as he chased Snape.

I think you make good points, but I still enjoyed a lot of it. Slughorn was awesome. The scene with Katie Bell and the necklace was awesome. The cave scene was almost perfect to me, save for wishing they included one line from Dumbledore when examining the wall: "Oh, surely not. So crude." and him being disappointed. I really wish they had developed young Tom more, and I even more wish that they showed Dumbledore knowing Tom better, his motivations, his weaknesses, why the "trophies" he took from his victims as a boy were important, etc. That was the whole point of Dumbledore's lessons with Harry. And the other thing I feel like was kinda important that they didn't focus on was Harry questioning Snape's loyalty more, and even more importantly, learning that it was Snape that told Voldemort about the prophecy. If they included that, they could have included what probably gave me the most chills while reading the book the second time through: the part where Harry calls Snape a coward and accuses him of killing his parents, and Snape's reaction of utter pain on his face.

However, like I said, I still enjoyed it more than most all of the other movies. If pushed, I'd probably still have to say I liked OotP better as a movie, but HBP would have to be second for me.

I didn't mean that he wasn't scary at all... just not in the way he was supposed to be. Why a Death Eater? Why not have him turn into a werewolf when he and Bellatrix were skulking around the Burrow? Tonks had set it up for that when she mentioned how "The last night of the cycle is always the most difficult"... I just don't understand. It was a missed opportunity. Not only that, but Greyback didn't even play much of a role in it. Almost like he was an afterthought.

I totally agree with you on the pulling-the-blanket-off-the-cabinet. I saw the movie again this weekend with my family, and counted the shots: definitely four separate and remarkably similar shots. Definitely could have used fewer of those! And the Christmas attack also left me completely lost. Gotta disagree with you on the Greyback scenes though. I thought he was completely revolting and frightening! Maybe it's different coming from a female perspective. But I'm sure he'll get more werewolfish action in DH.
